SUPPORTING WOUNDED WARRIORS
MOST OF US share a love of peace, and are saddened by
war in Iraq or elsewhere. We look forward to an end to violence,
hunger, cruelty. But the reality of today's world is that thousands
of young men and women have returned home with physical,
emotional, and mental wounds.
If you feel a personal connection to support our wounded
soldiers, check the following link to a website fully dedicated
to this cause:
www.veteransandfamilies.org/Warr....html
A SIMPLE WAY TO HELP: Last week the Presidents
Commission on Returning Wounded Warriors issued
their recommendations, which include:
1. The immediate creation of comprehensive recovery plans
to provide the right care and support at the right time in the
right place;
2. Completely restructure the disability and compensation
system;
3. Aggressively prevent and treat Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI);
4. Significantly strengthen support for families;
5. Rapidly transfer patient information between DoD
and VA; and
6. Strongly support Walter Reed (WRAMC) by recruiting
and retaining first-rate professionals through 2011.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Whether you are a
liberal or conservative, a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian
or any other political affiliation, CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW
to send President George Bush an email in support of enacting
all of the recommendations of the Presidents Commission on
Returning Wounded Warriors.

Re: SUPPORTING WOUNDED WARRIORS - action alert Dan Millman the Peaceful Warrior
Tue, July 31, 2007 - 4:42 PMThere is a way you can help much more directly also. I contacted the Family Services coordinator at Walter Reed Medical Center and he mentioned to me one special need that is being completely overlooked by everyone. Many of these injured servicemen are not actually from the United States. They are from Korea or Mexico or the Phillipines or just about anywhere you can think of. They come here and serve so that they can become citizens, then they get injured and they're all alone in a strange country. And their families still live in these far away countries!
So when these kids (and most of them are kids) become injured, they are basically warehoused (my word but I've seen it and it's true) in these facilities and they are all alone. They can't even call home. One way to help is to send International Phone Cards! This allows them to call home to update their families on their status or just to hear a familiar voice. It also helps families organize trips here to be with them and to update the family back home on their status.
The folks from here in the states at least have the care of their families here in the states. These other warriors are all alone. They need our help.
There is probably a better plan than phone cards. It seems to me that companies like Bell South or Vonage or someone could make these calls available to these folks for free! I mean, it costs them nothing and these folks have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I'm not sure how to make that happen but it should happen. It's the right thing to do!!! Any ideas?

help wounded warriors in LA
Thu, August 2, 2007 - 9:03 AMHi! A friend in Los Angeles is hosting a group of wounded warriors, taking them to ballgames and other fun events together around Los Angeles. They are looking for drivers and helpers throughout the week of their visit (next week I believe!). send me a personal message if you are in LA and perhaps available to help directly.
