Last night, while sewing hammocks, and laundering hammocks used on the weekend at Sunseeker, I watched Michael Franti's film: I know I'm Not Alone.
www.youtube.com/watch
"Michael Franti, world-renowned musician and human rights worker, travels to Iraq, Palestine and Israel to explore the human cost of war with a group of friends, some video cameras and his guitar."
I'm searching for the message of our movie: Stitch Uganda Together.
The themes that come to mind are:
What do people need to know to live well?
What does it mean to be rich?
The two words that came to mind after watching Michael Franti's film were opportunity... and responsibility. And those are my answers to the questions, in that order.
"Creation is Salvation" sums up my philosophy at this time, but I know that is confusing with Christian mythology. The point is... what we need to do is be creative to manifest the life we want for ourselves and others. This mission is not just about helping kids in Uganda have cozy places to sleep. We are learning how to avoid ever getting in that situation, because millions of people in Africa are already living our worst nightmare-- economic ruin, sickness, disease, natural disasters, lack of vital resources-- you name it. And in the spiritual realm, the kids I get to play with in Uganda are my teachers. To experience their lightness of being is to know God on earth.
The economic system is not going to fix our problems, it is just a tool we are using to create a space where we don't need to use it anymore. Money is a spell that has been cast over the world, so that everyone thinks it is real. It is a control mechanism for the natural flow. We put prices on things like trees and animals-- but really... how can we calculate their value? We trade our lives for dimes. It is shame that we see people as rich and poor, cuz it is not true. Riches are in spirit-- in gratitude. Waiting for a Greyhound in downtown San Francisco, I played the game, Who Here is Having Fun? It took ten minutes to find a smile. In Bunabumali, I couldn't take ten steps.
And yet, here I am, trading now for later-- New Brunswick for Uganda. I'll spend the rest of the day sewing furry hammocks and double hammocks that also serve as rain tarps, which I'll spend all weekend vending rockin' out at FeelsGood Folly Fest. We had Camp Cuddle Puddle at the Sunseeker Ball all last weekend, but I didn't have time to vend and enjoy precious moments with friends. I sold only two hammocks, traded one and gave away three.

Tonight, I'll meet Holly in Fredericton, who is getting the craft college on board with remaking clothes from Samantha, the modern art collector heiress in Phillidelphia, donated by Danny the Traveling Piano Man. The Stitch Uganda Circle has started weekly Wednesday night meetings organizing a Halloween fashion show fund raiser to be held Friday night, October 30th. Stephan called to confirm he is going to Uganda with us in November, so that makes four, plus Ben Koot from Denmark who will be there at that time anyway. Ben has been one of the most committed people I've seen working for Bunabumali... even getting Norman weekly salary through a sponsor.
The other Action Hero Network project, Casa de Mis Amigos on Stone Island in Central Mexico, is also getting organized. Last night, I sent out an invite to a Google group to form a circle of people who will create that scene... a circus theater training camp all winter 2010. My dream for 20 years has been to create a summer camp-like space for homeschool families or anyone who enjoys creating collective consciousness through sitting in circles and travel to expand the sphere of experience. Now that vision and all the opportunities it carries has been given up to the tribe, as it is ultimately not about me. I just create space for souls to fill and intermingle. It will take the form of whoever takes part. This is our facebook group:

Thanks for listening and taking part in these dreams. Amazing things happen when we all dream the similar dreams. I want to hear more about your dreams.
One of my favor lines from a movie was in James and the Giant Peach, after James few over the ocean on his peach, and landed in New York City. A crowd gathered and he told his story, and then his nasty aunt says "This is all something he dreamed up."
James answered, "Well, maybe it started that way, as a dream, but doesn't everything? Those buildings, these lights, this whole city! Somebody had to dream about it first, and maybe that's what I did. I dreamed about coming here, but then I didit!"
Never stop believing in your dreams!
